Can a Central Air Conditioner Make You Feel Sick in Spring Valley, NV? Symptoms of AC Sickness & More

While the much of the country is sipping hot chocolate, those of us in the Vegas area are still running our AC as we try and stay cool despite the high temperatures outside. Thankfully, your AC system can keep you as comfortable as can be inside your home. That is, unless you start to feel like you are getting sick from it. First of all, it is important to note that you cannot get an actual illness from your AC as getting sick requires a virus, pathogen or bacteria. However, there are several symptoms that people can experience known as AC sickness. Air Supply Heating & Air Conditioning is here to talk about some of the AC sickness symptoms that many people experience.

Symptoms of AC Sickness

While your AC may be the cause of some of the symptoms that you are feeling, it isn’t going to actually get you sick. It can increase your chances of exposure, but that’s about it. Here are some of the symptoms that you can feel when you experience AC sickness.
– Headache & Dizziness: If you have headaches that are reoccurring, it is always a good idea to have a doctor take a look at it to make sure you don’t have anything serious going on. However, studies have shown that people who spend an increased amount of time inside where the AC is turned down extremely low experience headaches and dizziness more than those that don’t.
– Dry Skin: It’s true that you can have dry skin issues that can be quite uncomfortable when your AC is turned on. This is because your AC eliminates the humidity in your home as it works to cool it off. Make sure you are using the right moisturizers during the summer months when you have the air turned on.
– Sore Throat: If your bed is located right beneath an AC vent that is blowing on you all night. You may wake up with a bit of a sore throat. Also, if there are any contaminates in the air you’re breathing, the AC may be circulating them more and making it easier for you to breath them in. This can also be a cause of a sore throat.
– Heat Intolerance: People who keep their homes too cold throughout the summer start to show signs of heat intolerance. This means that they can’t handle the heat outside and need to be in a temperate environment. Keeping your thermostat turned up higher can help you avoid this problem and help you handle hotter temperatures better.
