Central Air Conditioning Unit Not Turning On in The Lakes, NV? Condenser Clog & More

It is that time of year again, where air conditioners are being consistently used in the Las Vegas desert. Looking for comfort and relief from the warm temperatures, and when it applies, the high humidity levels; the cooling system in your home or business is essential. There are many instances to when homeowners go to turn on their system, the air conditioner does not switch on. Where this is common, there are a few causes to this dilemma that we at Air Supply Heating and Air Conditioning would like to share today.

Why Won’t Central Air Conditioner Turn On?

1) Air Filter. The first thing everyone should do before anything else when the air conditioner is not on, is check the air filter. There are quite a few models that are designed to shut down when the air filters are over encumbered and will not turn on until the filter is breathable again. This feature is a safety and efficiency precaution primarily designed to prevent the damage clogged filters contribute to.
2) Power Supply. Inspect the breaker box if in the event the air conditioning system does not seem to be receiving power. If the breaker switch flipped, be sure push the switch all the way to the off position before switching it back on again. Do not restore power until you have had a licensed technician inspect the wiring should you flip the breaker, but it continues to trip. If the power is absent from your home, contact your power company. With the help of a certified professional, the issue can be properly diagnosed to restore the power for your unit. The most common solution is the technicians simply needs to tighten or repair any loose wiring or terminals.
3) Outdoor Unit has a Clog. Another possible reason for an air conditioner not powering on is the unit’s outdoor condenser fan and fins are clogged from the dirt, leaves, grass, and other debris. The most effective solution is scheduling a comprehensive air conditioning tune-up service. Other alternatives would be to learn how to clean the condenser unit yourself without damaging it.
4) Thermostat. Ensure the thermostat is operating correctly. The power should be set on and set to cool. An electromechanical thermostat requires a good cleaning every so often. Make certain the batteries are fresh if the thermostat appears disabled. If the thermostat won’t power on, make sure it is not the circuit breaker or power supply. A professional may be needed if the home is powered but thermostat is not functioning.
Transformer, Contactor, or Relay is Faulty. To power on the air conditioner or heat pump, the transformer and contactor are electric motor controls that are used. You will need to contact a licensed professional for replacement in the event these elements are not functioning.
