Do I Need to Replace My Furnace in Summerlin, NV? Age, Comfort, Power Bills & More

While many of us would like to be thinking about warmer days moving forward, we aren’t quite there yet. Many of us still need our furnaces to keep us warm in the evenings and early mornings still as the last month or so of winter squeaks on by. While we are at the tail end of winter, some people might be stuck with a furnace that doesn’t seem to be working the way that it should. It can leave you wondering if you should repair or replace the furnace all together. Air Supply Heating & Air Conditioning is here to talk about when you will know it is time to replace your old furnace for a new one.

How Old is the Furnace?

The first thing that you need to consider is the age of the furnace. The average home can count on their furnace lasting 15-20 years before it needs to be replaced. If your furnace is over or around 15 years, you are going to want to think about replacing rather than repairing a furnace that possibly only has a couple more years of life in it. A good rule of thumb to live by is the 5000 rule. When you multiply the cost of the repair that is needed by the number of years old your furnace is, you should be below 5000 to have the repair make sense. If it is over 5000, you are better off putting that money towards a newer and more efficient furnace instead.

Are You Comfortable Indoors?

Sometimes, when your furnace starts to get older, you will find that you aren’t as comfortable as you once were after the heat has supposedly brought the temperature up in your. It isn’t uncommon for an older furnace to create hot and cold spots throughout your home. Sometimes, even thought the furnace has cycled through, you will still feel slightly chilled. If you aren’t feeling completely comfortable in your home during the winter, it is time to think about replacing your furnace.

Do You have High Energy Bills?

Another place to look to find out whether or not it makes sense to keep the furnace you have or replace it with a newer one is your monthly energy bill. If you have noticed that there is a steep increase in the amount of money you are spending on heating your home, there is a problem. You either have a repair that needs to be done or your furnace is shot and needs to be replaced.
