– Check Condenser Nameplate: There is a nameplate on the AC condenser that you can usually look to find information like the make, model, and serial number. The first four numbers of that serial number is usually the year that it was manufactured.
– Look in Blower Compartment: If you are having a difficult time finding the nameplate on the condenser, you can also check inside the blower compartment. There should be a product label there that has the same information you would find on the nameplate. Sometimes, the product label can be worn if the unit is getting older. If this is the case, you can look up the model number and see when they were manufactured.
– Installation Date: You can usually tell how old a unit is by the date that it was installed as well. If the homeowner before you passed on any paperwork about the house, it should include the date that the AC unit was installed. If there isn’t any information about it, you can safely assume that the install date what when the home was built. If your home is 20 years old, it is more than likely that your AC unit is that old as well.
