Turning Up the Thermostat

When you are at home, the most cost efficient temperature is 78 degrees. At night, or when you aren’t at home, turn up the thermostat to see savings of 5%-15% on your energy bill. There is no need to cool air when no one is there to enjoy it. Keeping your home as warm as you can stand it will give you big savings on your cooling costs.

Cool Down a Room with Fans

If you can get the air in your home moving, even if it isn’t the coldest air, it will feel that way. Ceiling fans can keep your comfortable at night when you turn the temperature up on your thermostat. Oscillating fans can be helpful in main living areas to cool the air as well.

Avoid Using the Oven

You would be surprised at how much heat your oven emits into the house when it is running. Look for other ways to prepare your food. A good option during the summer is grilling. That way the heat is outside and you can find reprieve inside your home.

One of the keys to keeping your cooling costs down is to properly maintain your air conditioning unit. When it isn’t properly maintained it has to work twice as hard to do the job. Keeping your unit running well allows it to cool your air more efficiently.
