If you are like most people, getting enough sleep at night is something that is necessary for you to get everything done during the day that you need to. One way to make sure you are getting the sleep that you need is to make sure that you are sleeping in a home that is cool enough during the summertime. Air Supply Heating & Air Conditioning is here to talk about what the ideal sleeping temperature is in your home.

What is the Relationship Between Temperature & Sleep?

When people think about getting a good night’s sleep, the first thing that comes to their mind is not likely the temperature of their home. However, if you have noticed that you are not getting good sleep in the summer months it might be due to the fact that your home is too hot at night. The fact of the matter is, sleep and the temperature of your house are closely related to each other. As your body gets ready to sleep at night, it will naturally cool down to do so. If your house is too hot, your body has a much harder time getting to that ideal the core temperature.

What is a Good Sleeping Temperature

This might leave homeowners wondering what the ideal temperature for sleeping is. The Department of Energy recommends sleeping in a home that is 82 degrees at night, with the lower temperature of 78 degrees during the day. However, when they set these standards, they are not thinking about your sleep quality. Studies have shown that the ideal sleeping temperature is slightly different for adults and small children.
– Adults: Most adults will find that they get their best good night’s sleep in a home that is between 60 and 67 degrees Fahrenheit. However, to get your home this low in the summertime is going to be difficult. You have to go through some trial and error as you work to find the most ideal temperature for your house. Many adults find that this is right around 70 degrees in the summer.
– Infants/Small Children: Like mentioned above, the most ideal temperature for adults and children at night is slightly different from each other. Studies show that infants and small children sleep best when their home is between 67 and 69 degrees Fahrenheit. If you are struggling with a child that is having a hard time sleeping at night and getting comfortable, you might want to take a look at the temperature in your as a cause for the decline in sleep.
