When & How You Should Cover Your Outdoor AC Unit?

It is important to remember that these units are built withstand all sorts of weather conditions outside during the winter months. However, they aren’t built to handle leaf litter as well as any other debris that could fall inside of them during the offseason. Following are a couple of rules to follow when it comes to covering your outdoor AC unit at the end of the summer:
– Only Cover Outside AC Unit in the Fall: The time of the year that has the most leaf litter is the fall when the leaves are losing their leaves as well as any seeds. This makes the fall season the time when you should consider putting a cover on the top of your unit. Once the trees have lost all of their leaves, you can go ahead and remove the cover.
– Only Cover the Top of Condenser: You don’t ever want to cover your outdoor AC unit completely. When you do, it only traps water inside the unit which can lead to issues like rust and corrosion. You should only cover the top and down the sides about 6 inches to keep your unit safe.
