Types of Heating & Air Conditioning Systems in Tuscany Village, NV; Split, Ductless Mini Split & More

There are a number of different types of heating and cooling systems used for homes and commercial buildings. Knowing which type of cooling and heating system you have can better help you maintain and determine problems as they occur. Air Supply Heating & Air Conditioning will share the four common types of air conditioners used for homes and commercial buildings.

Split System Heating & Cooling

As the name suggests, this heating and cooling system is split and has two units. One is inside the home and the other outside the home. The unit that is located outside is the condenser and the indoor unit is the air handler which is also connected to the furnace. A split system is one of the more common types of air conditioning systems that is used in many residential buildings. The elements of a heating and air conditioning split system are:
• An outdoor unit that contains the condenser coils, compressor, fan, and electrical components.
• The refrigerant circulated between the condenser and the air handler will travel between refrigerant lines.
• The Air handler contains the evaporator coils, blower and its motor and sits just above the furnace.
• This system has an air duct system, a thermostat and can also have air scrubbers, purifiers, humidifiers, UV lamp system and other air quality accessories.

Hybrid Heat Pump System

A hybrid heating pump system is a heating and cooling system that is powered electrically in conjunction with the heating fuel which can be natural gas, propane, or fuel oil. Even those with this system have it called a heating pump, this system is an effective cooling system as well. Some of the elements of a hybrid heat pump system are:
• Heating pump that cools and heats the refrigerant.
• There is a furnace plus an evaporator coil that coverts the refrigerant and circulates the air.
• This system also uses air ducts and a thermostat to control the system.
• A hybrid system also has the option of adding air quality equipment.

Ductless Mini-Split Heat Pump System

A ductless mini-split heating pump system, or mostly called a ductless mini-split HVAC system, is not as common as other HVAC systems but is often used to cool areas, homes or other buildings that do not have any heating and cooling system. A ductless mini-split system doesn’t require any air ducts to be present to have an efficient cooling and heating system. The elements of a ductless mini-split heating pump system are:
• An outdoor unit (heating pump) that contains the compressor, condenser and fan.
• A compact fan coil, refrigerant, and tubes.
• Electrical wiring and a Thermostat.

Packaged HVAC System

A packaged heating and air conditioning system is another popular type of HVAC system. This is a single unit that houses the condenser and evaporator system. This HVAC system is used for homes, and smaller office buildings. The elements of a packaged heating and air conditioning system are:
• A single unit that is a combination of a condenser and evaporator system.
• Uses air ducts to direct the air throughout the home or building.
• Uses a thermostat to control the system and can have additional air quality devices added to this system.
