One great thing is that no matter the outdoor temp, it continues to produce more and more heat. In contrast, heat pumps circulate naturally humid warm air in your house so the air may not feel as dry. The downside with a heat pump is that it usually doesn’t feel as hot. So you need to decide which one you prefer.

Air Quality

With proper furnace maintenance, you can preserve your home’s indoor air quality. You want to breathe clean air while you are at home. So you need to keep up with the maintenance of a furnace to keep the air clean. If not, the air can become dirty and dusty that you are breathing. With a heat pump, it doesn’t produce carbon monoxide so you don’t need to worry about a dangerous CO leak as you do with a furnace. The Heat pumps also use moisture in the air to heat the air so humidity is generally higher.

Heating Energy Efficiency

Heat pumps use less energy and heat efficiently, which is great when you want a small bill. The heat pump can use less energy than either a gas or electric furnace. But the great thing is that there are high-efficiency gas furnaces and they are still approximately 95% efficient. So when it comes to energy efficiency either is a win.

HVAC Life Expectancy

Because they are used year-round, heat pumps have a shorter life expectancy. A heat pump can last about 10 to 15 years depending on how much you use it. The more you use it the shorter the life span. A well-maintained furnace can last upwards of 15 or even 20 years.
