Why is My AC Running But Not Cooling in Las Vegas, NV? Short Cycling & More

Dealing with an AC problem is the last thing that anyone wants in the dead of summer. When you are facing AC trouble, you want to get your system back up and running as soon as possible. Sometimes, this doesn’t mean that you need to call on an HVAC professional to get it done. There are several things that a homeowner can do to solve AC problems before they call in the big guns. Air Supply Heating & Air Conditioning is here to share some AC troubleshooting tips to help you get your AC system back on track.

What is the Most Common Problem with AC?

There are a number of issues that you can run into with your AC system during the summer months when it seems to be running around the clock to keep up with the heat. There are certainly going to be some issues that will need to be dealt with by professionals that are highly trained in how to fix these AC issues, but there are also some problems that you can solve on your own.
– Hot Air: If there is nothing but hot air coming out of the vents in your home when you turn your AC on, it could be a problem with your thermostat. This is the first place that you should check. Make sure it is turned on and turned to “cool.”
– Short Cycling: Even though your AC works constantly to keep your home cool, there should be periods of time where it shuts off. If this isn’t happening, you need to go and heck the filter to make sure it isn’t dirty. You can also check the evaporator coils to make sure there is no ice that has built up on them. If there is ice on the unit, make sure you turn it off and allow it time to melt.
– Strange Noises: Your AC system is going to make a certain amount of noise during its normal operation. If you start to hear strange noises though, you will want to check it out. Make sure that there is no sign of leaking around the inside unit first. Then, you will want to check the outdoor unit to make sure there is no debris that is getting in the way of it working properly. Keep your landscaping trimmed back at least two feet from the outdoor unit at all times.
– Won’t Turn On: The first thing that you should check when your AC system won’t turn on at all, is the circuit breaker. Check for any tripped or blown fuses that are getting in the way of your unit working.
