Expect a Higher Level of Service

Summer is such a fun time of year but your AC has to work so hard during those hot months. Summer is coming to a close which means your AC may be able to rest from time to time. But before you turn off your AC it’s a good idea to do some end-of-summer maintenance. Air Supply Heating & Air Conditioning offers some helpful tips below.

Clean or Change Air Filters

Changing your air filters is a very simple job and something that you can do. You should change your filters every 60 to 90 days. If you have dirty air filters, it can cause problems with the performance of your air conditioner. Which includes having breakdowns more often and can have an effect on your home’s air quality.

Clean Area Around Outside Condenser Unit

Over the summer, leaves, debris, sticks, and dirt can gather around your outdoor AC unit. You must keep your outdoor unit clean from debris so that it gets good airflow around it. Make sure that you sweep the area, and cut back any trees or bushes that may be surrounding it so that you can get good airflow coming in and out.

Clean AC Coils

Having clean coils is very important for a unit to run well. If you need a heavy-duty cleaning where you need to take the case off then it is best to call a professional to remove the case and do the cleaning. This can be done at least once a year. But you can do some cleaning yourself by using a garden hose and spraying down the unit to get off big chunks of dirt and debris. This will help your AC run better. Just remember before you start washing you want to disconnect from electricity. There is a kill switch that is connected to the house from the outside unit that you can turn off the unit. Once you have sprayed it down, you want to let it dry then you can turn back on the power.

Do End of Summer AC Tune-Up

With summer coming to an end and the weather starting to cool down, it is a great time to have a professional come and do a tune-up on your AC. It is also a great time while they are checking over your AC to do a furnace tune-up. With summer coming to an end, you want to make sure that your furnace is running properly. Before it gets too cold it is a good idea to turn your furnace on to make sure that everything is running properly. Replacing the air filters can help with the change also.
